Bug Camp – Summer Day Camp provides a safe and fun environment for youngsters aged 6-15 to explore the world of Bugs! Offers snacks, animal encounters, field explorations, laboratory experiments, crafts & activities, games, a mini-talk series, story time and more! Lunch is provided for an additional fee. Bug Camp will be held from Tuesday, August 1st to Saturday, August 5th, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Backyard Wildlife Resource Center in Cedar Hill.
Visions of America: Three Centuries of Prints from the National Gallery of Art – This exhibition surveys how America and its people have been represented in prints made by American and non-American artists between 1710 and 2010. As the final venue on a four-city international tour and the only other US venue, the DMA will present more than 150 outstanding prints from the colonial era to the present, drawn exclusively from the National Gallery of Art’s collection. Visions of America, which the Washington Post described as “historically riveting,” features more than 100 artists such as Paul Revere, James McNeill Whistler, Mary Cassatt, Winslow Homer, George Bellows, John Marin, Jackson Pollock, Louise Nevelson, Romare Bearden, Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, Chuck Close, Jenny Holzer and Kara Walker. Now through September 3rd and Dallas Museum of Art.
North Dallas Toy Show – For sale: Hot Wheels, Action Figures, Comic Books, Collectible Toys, Transformers, Matchbox cars, Star Wars, Batman, POKEMON, Marvel Legends, DC Comics, Star Trek, Pop Vinyl, Sci-Fi, Horror toys, Trading Cards, Diecast cars, Happy Meal Toys, Vintage toys, all types of collectibles and much more! August 5th, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Dallas Events Center.
Back to School Mimosa Walk – Grab a ticket for Bishop Arts’ Mimosa Walk and spend the afternoon sipping cocktails, wandering through local boutiques, and reveling in the fact that you don’t have to ride the school bus anymore. Sunday, August 6th, beginning at 11 a.m.
Picasso/Rivera: Still Life and the Precedence of Form – Early still-life paintings by these two masters show the artists mining a strikingly similar vein, their respective work complementing and deepening one another. (Or, if you take Rivera’s perspective, showcasing Picasso’s plagiarism.) August 6th – November 5th, Meadows Museum at SMU.
Vitruvian Salsa Festival – The Vitruvian Salsa Festival takes over Vitruvian Park’s Amphitheater every Saturday night in August! Bring your dancing shoes and enjoy the live bands, DJs and salsa lessons with Luis Delgadillo from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Coolers are permitted; however, food and beverages will be available for purchase from gourmet food trucks. A different band will play each Saturday. Dance those hot Saturday nights away at the Vitruvian Salsa Festival! Every Saturday in August!
Texas Sales Tax Holiday – This year’s Sales Tax Holiday is Aug. 11 – 13. As in previous years, the law exempts most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks priced less than $100 from sales and use taxes, which could save shoppers about $8 on every $100 they spend.

Deep Ellum Water Balloon Wars – 2,500 PEOPLE + 60,000 WATER BALLOONS = 1 UNFORGETTABLE BATTLE! Deep Ellum Water Balloon Wars is an adults-only event featuring water balloon battles, water slides, dunk tanks, music, food and libations in the heart of Deep Ellum. PLEASE NOTE: Deep Ellum Water Balloon Wars is an adult-only event for individuals 18 & up. ABOUT THE ORGANIZERS: Deep Ellum Water Balloon Wars are organized by Foundation 45, a special project of Deep Ellum Foundation and Deep Ellum Community Association. Proceeds from the event will go towards helping Foundation 45 provide no-cost mental health and addiction services to artists, musicians and other creative types in Deep Ellum and the surrounding Dallas communities.
