Summer is here! School is out, camps are in session, fresh produce is ready to be harvested and the Texas sun is shining. Get out and enjoy some fun in Dallas – here are our ideas, please let us know your favorites too!
Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden presents “ZimSculpt” – World renowned exhibition of modern Zimbabwean stone sculptures, features over 100 sculptures on display at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden. This is the largest collection ever assembled for a show in the United States. Known as Shona sculpture, these contemporary pieces can be as large as seven feet tall and are hand carved from stone, as hard as granite. ZimSculpt will feature exquisite sculptures of several dozen contemporary Zimbabwean artists displayed throughout the garden. Through July 31st.
Taste of Dallas presents Foodie Experience: Best Bites of Big D – This special, one-night-only event is on Friday, June 9th at Gilley’s Dallas, and will highlight the very best food and drinks that Dallas has to offer. This year’s all-inclusive format will provide an immersive, interactive evening experience for culinary enthusiasts. Enjoy celebrity chefs, like Dean Fearing of Fearing’s at The Ritz Carlton and Tom Parlo of the renowned Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek, just to name a few. Guests will be able to sip and sample from some of the very best restaurants, gourmet brands and local artisans, and will enjoy hands-on food and beverage demonstrations in the relaxed atmosphere of Gilley’s Dallas.
Dallas Farmers Market presents Walkabout with a Chef – Come join Walkabout with a Chef! Dallas’ best chefs will share their recipes, show how to shop Dallas Farmers Market for the ingredients for their recipe, will demonstrate how to make their dish in The Shed and give culinary tips. June 10th, 11 a.m., The Shed at the Dallas Farmers Market.
Big D BBQ Battle – At Big D BBQ Battle, the best sauce-slingers in all of the DFW Metroplex fire up their smokers and vie for the top prize in categories such as best brisket, ribs and beans at this annual barbecue competition. Meanwhile, attendees fill up with all the fall-off-the-bone succulence they can take. June 10th at 5 p.m., Addison Circle.
Dallas Zoo Safari Nights – Every Saturday evening, enjoy family fun under the stars and extended hours with the animals. Visitors can explore the zoo during the day, and then stretch out at night to the sounds of tribute bands and original songwriters on the shady Cat Green. Bring a blanket or chairs! Through July 15.
Dallas Museum of Art Family Days – The DMA Family Days in June will feature family friendly activities inspired by the “México 1900–1950: Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, José Clemente Orozco, and the Avant-Garde” exhibition from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., as well as free admission to not only “México 1900–1950,” but the DMA’s two new exhibitions: “Iris van Herpen: Transforming Fashion” and “Visions of America: Three Centuries of Prints from the National Gallery of Art.” Free admission. Sunday, June 11th, 11 a.m.
Nasher Sculpture Center presents ’til Midnight – ’til Midnight at the Nasher presents live outdoor concerts featuring the best in regional music talent paired with film screenings in the Nasher Garden. Guests have the opportunity to engage in social media scavenger hunts, progressive tours and to view the permanent collection and special exhibitions free of charge. Movie showing is La La Land. Friday, June 16th, 6 p.m.
Dallas Arts District presents Summer Block Party 2017 – The Dallas Arts District is closing the streets for the annual Summer Block Party. Participants include the Crow Collection of Asian Art, Dallas Museum of Art, Nasher Sculpture Center and Klyde Warren Park. Grab dinner or dessert from gourmet food trucks lining the streets as you enjoy all three museums and participate in special activities, live concerts, guided tours, films, art and more. As always, the Block Party is free and lasts until midnight. Information provided by the venue. June 16th, 6 p.m. til midnight.
Texas Rangers present Dinner with the Rangers – At Dinner with the Rangers, guests can enjoy an afternoon of great baseball followed by dinner and an exclusive Q&A with Mike Napoli. Ticket packages include two tickets, plus parking for the June 18 game against the Seattle Mariners, a photo and Q&A with Napoli, and autographed baseball (one per couple). June 18th, 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Dirk Nowitzki’s 2017 Heroes Celebrity Baseball Game – With the basketball season behind him, Dirk Nowitzki will shift his focus to baseball as he hosts Dirk Nowitzki’s 2017 Heroes Celebrity Baseball Game presented by Baylor Scott & White Medical Center. Game goers are encouraged to come out early for family fun festivities and a Heroes Special Olympics All-Star Softball Game plus post-game fireworks to round out the evening. For the 16th year, two baseball teams made up of celebrity players will slug it out for nine innings of hard-charging, umpires-umping, trash-talking, base-stealing, home run-hitting baseball. Proceeds will benefit the Dirk Nowitzki Foundation and the Heroes Foundation. Scheduled to appear are Dallas Cowboys Dak Prescott, Dez Bryant, Ezekiel Elliott, Dan Bailey and more; tennis legend Andy Roddick; Dallas Mavericks J.J. Barea, Seth Curry, Devin Harris and others; actor Geoff Stults; former Texas Rangers great Michael Young; and more (roster subject to change). Saturday, June 24th, 6 p.m.
Reunion Lawn Party – On the last Saturday of every month, June through August, Reunion Tower will host the Reunion Lawn Party, a monthly hangout in the heart of downtown, at Reunion Park. The party will be a free hangout featuring live music, food trucks, a beer garden, lawn games and more. June 24th, 6:30 p.m.
